Fall is FOR LEARNING…

A Note from the Artistic Director…

I’m a huge fan of fall weather and cozy-ing up with a good play to read with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. (Not a fan of pumpkin spice in anything except pumpkin pie, sadly!)

I’m also a huge fan of our King County arts agency 4Culture. The Shattered Glass Project has been a grateful recipient of three abundant grants from 4Culture in the last year, made possible by our King County Council and the good citizens of King County.

We are incredibly pleased to have most recently been awarded a $11,250 Cultural Equipment grant for the purchase of lighting equipment and pipe and drape, aka, a portable “Black Box in A Box” which we will use to convert small non-theatrical spaces into professional quality performance venues. We will start with the conversion of our studio space in the MLK FAME Center into a 35-seat pocket theatre where we can continue to provide unique creative opportunities for women, non-binary and transgender theatre makers at all levels of their professional careers.

I can hear a Voice in the Distance asking an incredibly important question:

“Is $11,250 enough to buy the lights, light board, cables, stanchions, pipe and drape?”

The answer, dear Voice: “But NO! We need YOUR help to raise the matching funds needed to fully fund this opportunity. Any amount is welcome (and if we beat the goal, extra funds will support our actors and playwrights and directors working on the Plays in Progress, our Incubator/Mentor program, and the upcoming production of I will miss you when you’re gone, opening March 5, 2026)

Or you can read the rest of the newsletter, enjoy enjoy the cozy weather vibe and some hot chocolate or a pumpkin-spice taste treat and donate at the end. Either way! See you at the theatre!

Scene & Heard Discussion SERIES

We’ve been having a wonderful time with our Scene & Heard discussions, a series of informal conversations led by panelists with experience in the subject up for discussion. Including the workshop, each meeting has truly been a conversation in an intimate circle, where attendees discuss what they’ve experienced, and panelists offer what things have worked for them - there are usually snacks and beverages, as well as opportunities to talk a little afterwards with anyone you want to, outside the circle.

We’re taking a little break at the end of October (to celebrate the Gregory Awards!), but will be back Nov 3 with a workshop really for EVERY theatre maker, dealing with Fostering a healthy career: self care in the theatre profession! We hope to see you there - these discussions are and have always been free of charge, all we ask is that you register, using this link:

4Culture Grant Award!

SGP has recently received a generous $11.5K equipment grant from 4Culture - wheee! This will enable us to purchase lighting & sound equipment to work towards turning our space at the MLK Fame center (The Green Room) into a more useable “pocket” theatre, because goodness knows, we need more performance and rehearsal space in Seattle!

Our Fall Giving Campaign seeks to raise an additional $15,000 through Giving Tuesday and our end-of-year fundraising - stay tuned for more details! The more generous you are, the more we can amplify women, nonbinary and transgender theatre makers and their projects, lifting up and quite literally lighting up people who are being targeted in the current political environment.

Help us kick off our giving campaign for the new pocket theatre and Black-Box-in-a-Box – Donate Now!
